Central Waters Peruvian Morning 2012

Central Waters Peruvian Morning is an American Double/Imperial Stout that is made with Emy J’s Coffee and then bourbon barrel aged. Bourbon, vanilla and some roasted coffee flavors battle back and forth for control of your taste buds. The coffee ultimately fades a bit, and in the end I’d say this lacks a bit of complexity. [...]

King Street Stout
Intuition Ale Works King Street Stout & The Heel

Jeff, one of my regular customers at the bar, had been telling about the beers Intuition Ale Works have been brewing for a while. He recently went above and beyond the call of duty to get me a couple of growlers. Thanks Jeff! King Street Stout: This is an American Double/Imperial Stout, and believe me this stout [...]

Port Brewing Hop 15

Port Brewing Hop 15 American Double/Imperial IPA. This uses 15 different hops added to the beer every 15 minutes. Things start off very sweet and fruity with tons of pineapple, orange, and some tart grapefruit. The hops become rather piney before settling into a very spicy/peppery finish. This bottle was not very carbonated making the beer [...]

Unibroue La Terrible

Unibroue La Terrible is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Dark fruit flavors, cherries, dates and plums. This is complemented by a subtle spiciness and some Belgian yeast flavors. This beer could have been bigger and more intense (and I maybe was expecting so with the name), but it is quite nice the way it is.

Abita 25th Anniversary Vanilla DoubleDog

The label says that this was inspired by Abita’s own TurboDog and I believe it. The taste profile is similar and I certainly taste the caramel malts I like in Turbodog. The addition here is the vanilla. This beer is brewed with whole bean vanilla and does it come through. Vanilla is by far the [...]

Ithaca Flower Power

Ithaca Flower Power is an American IPA. This thing is great from nose to finish! Sweet inviting aroma. Layers of complex hop flavor: mango, tangerine, pine, earthier hop flavors on the finish. The malt sweetness is spot on, doing it’s job to balance. This was well worth the effort in obtaining. For what it’s worth I’ve [...]

Lagunitas Pils

Lagunitas Pils is a Czech Style Pilsener. A good bit of bready sweetness to start. This is balanced by a bit of grass and floral hops. A really enjoyable Czech Pilsener, a perfect summer brew.
