My Name is Keith and I’m a Beer Trading Addict. Part 1
This is part 1 of 3 of our series on Beer Trading.
It started innocently enough. Lee and I went down to Tampa for Cigar City Brewing Hunahpu’s Day. A great time was had by all, you can read that story over at Empty Growler. Then a few days later Lee informed me his friend Joe was going to FFF Dark Lord Day and was interested in trading. I had never seriously thought about trading. Sure I would browse the beeradvocate.com forums on occasion, but I never seriously considered trading. Things just got serious. A chance to try FFF Dark Lord? Yeah, I’ll trade.
Joe and I had a month or so before DLD, so I suggested a pre-trade. I wanted to test the waters before I shipped off a rare $20 beer. We quickly agreed on a trade and before long a box appeared at my doorstep. Opening it was like it used to feel on Christmas morning. Among the bubble wrap and news paper was two amazing beers from Goose Island: Bourbon County Brand Stout and Goose Island Big John, and a Cincinnati Beer Week Barleywine as an extra. That was it, I was hooked. Beer Trading = Smoking Meth. With so many beers out there I want to try I found myself jumping right into the trading forums on beeradvocate.com.
The rewards so far have included Fat Head’s Headhunter, CCB Marshal Zhukov, CCB Imperial Milk Porter, and CCB Church on a Hill, just to name a few. Then again each box I ship, I give myself an ulcer worrying about it. It didn’t help that the box containing my third trade was damaged and destroyed, about $100 lost. It took the better part of a day for me to track down and re-ship that trade. Needless to say this hobby isn’t for everyone, but as for me… I am hooked.
