Last weekend my family and I took a camping trip down to Disney’s Fort Wilderness. The trip was the first foray into my wife’s UNSETTEMENT project, our summer long trip traveling up and down the east coast meeting and documenting the lives of RVers. But enough about that for now. I want to talk about [...]
Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is rich and smooth with nice roasted flavors and a surprising amount of hop presence. The roasted malts have a touch of coffee to them, some floral hops and a slightly sour and roasty finish. This stands right up there with Samuel Smith’s outstanding Oatmeal Stout.
Hair Of The Dog Adam is an Old Ale, but this is like no other Old Ale I’ve ever had! Smoke, old leather, tobacco, chocolate, dark fruits and a hint of cherries. There is a nice bit of hops on the finish mixing perfectly with the smokiness. It says 10% ABV on the bottle but I [...]
Stone / Bear Republic / Fat Head’s TBA is an American Brown Ale. An extra hoppy Brown Ale brewed with molasses and brown sugar. I noticed the hops at first, big pine with a little citrus. Then the malts, brown sugar & molasses balance things out. The sweetness reminds me of a good bbq glaze, sweet [...]
The Alchemist Heady Topper is an American Double/Imperial IPA. Lots of floral and citrus hops (flavors of orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, and pineapple) with a touch of pine. The bready malts are not huge, but serve their purpose. The 8% alcohol is unnoticeable. This is an amazing DIPA, and those who can drink this regularly should [...]
Allagash Old HLT is an American Wild Ale. This ale was aged in stainless on fresh Montmorency cherries for 2 years. Pretty strait forward: sour with a mild amount of cherry notes. Not a very complex sour, but it is most enjoyable.
Great Divide Nomad is a Czech Pilsener. This Pils has a big spicy hop bite, it’s very similar to Victory Prima Pils. Lots of hay and white pepper with undertones of lemon citrus. Some dominate grain on the finish. Crisp and full of carbonation. Not sure why this is a winter seasonal though, seems like [...]
The Lost Abbey Red Poppy Ale is a Flanders Red Ale, this is a relatively fresh bottle of vintage 2012. Getting lots of funk on the nose. Things start with a rush of vinegar and an always noticeable Brett funkiness. The beer then settles into the most wonderful sweet and sour cherry flavor. The months of [...]
Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager Fruit Beer available in the summer. This smells amazingly just like strawberries. It starts of like an average lager, then there is a strange tart strawberry-ness. Really the best part of this beer is the aftertaste, it is the same as if you were eating strawberry shortcake. This is the kind of [...]
The Sennheiser PMX 680 Sports Earbud Headphones are a part of their Adidas co-branded 680 athletic line. The series is immediately recognizable due to the bright neon yellow ear pads and cable. This wrap-around model comes in a variant, the PMX 680i which includes a microphone and iPhone controls. I’ve always been a fan of the neck [...]
