New Shoes Blues
My old shoes didn’t stay retired for long.
After logging 400 miles and assuming that my sudden knee pains were the result of broken-down material in my old Asics Gel-Cumuluses, I bought a new, identical pair, excepting the color. The new blue color is pretty sweet, by the way. But guess what?
Blisters.
On my first run, a quarter inch tall, 3 inch long blister formed on the inside of my left heel. I took a few days off and ran again in my old pair. The blister disappeared with no additional wear from my old shoes. I tried the new shoes again on my last run. Guess what?
The same blister came back AND the pain in my right knee returned.
The knee stiffness isn’t too bad. I can definitely run through the discomfort. The blister, however may more difficult to ignore. There has to be something off with the shoe’s lining, as it’s only on one side and I’ve used different socks.
I’m going on a long run tomorrow. The new shoes saga is still developing.
Update: For a seven mile run, I reverted to my old shoes, where I received a matching blister on the opposite foot (see comments). A three mile run in my new shoes showed no blister aggravation irritation. I’ve ordered new, thin socks for my next run on Friday.
