Ommegang Abbey Ale
This was ultimately chosen for the grand tasting for podcast 11. Ommegang Abbey Ale is a Belgian Style Dubbel, and since Ommegang is a sister company to Duvel hopes are high. The aroma is nice, I am getting the rich malts and dark fruits expected. The taste was a bit of a let down from the nose. Dark malts with a generic fruitiness (white fleshy fruits) with apples coming out as it warmed. There is a nice spiciness to this but also somewhat generic, I’m having a hard time placing the specific spices. Overall I would say this is a solid Dubbel that should be pretty easy to find and is worth a try. The consensus during the podcast was that none of us were going to rush out and grab some more, but we would certainly re-visit it again sometime in the future.
