Founders KBS 2013
Founders KBS is an American Double/Imperial Stout. This beer is released once a year to about as much insanity as any other. It is limited but not exactly rare and if you are willing to run around town you should be able to get at least a few bottles every year. Lee and I had a rather interesting time finding our allotment this year, but that is another story.
To call this stout complex would be an understatement, notes of coffee, chocolate, bourbon, and oak. The bourbon barrel aging really comes through as does the alcohol. The 2013 vintage has some huge coffee on the nose, with a less viscous body than I remember in past vintages. I’m tasting more chocolate upfront this year, along with some toffee I never noticed before. The bourbon seems less, but that might be my palate changing. One again it’s amazing and lives up to the hype, so get your hands on some if you can.
