Brooklyn Monster Ale

Brooklyn Monster Ale is an English style Barleywine. Aged about 6 months. This is the 2012 and final vintage for this beer. RIP Monster the beer and Monster the cat. It seems after the Brooklyn Brewery cat passed, they decided to retire “his” beer as well.

I am pretty sure this was the first barleywine I ever had, and it is still pretty good to me. There is a nice spicy hop thing going on on the nose. Some caramel and toffee malts are followed by some outstanding hop flavor. I feel like this might develop really well with more time, I can sense some dark fruit flavors and sweetness hiding in there just waiting to come out. If you haven’t had this before and see some at your local store I’d grab a few, there is a good chance it’ll be your last chance to try it.
