Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine 2012
Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine is aged for a full year in bourbon barrels. This vintage was bottled in January of 2012, opened Mother’s Day 2013. Aged about 1 year and 5 months longer in the bottle. I received this as a trade extra and I want to say thanks, but I can’t remember who sent it! A rich and sweet caramel malt hits my palate first. This is followed by some fairly strong bourbon, and then bitter hops that come in just on the very end of the taste and then into the aftertaste. This is pretty impressive at a little over a year, but I think it could use even more time if you wanted. I have to imagine some of the bourbon has faded, but it is strong enough to still be a factor in the overall experience. I will be picking up more of this if I ever see it.
