Bell’s Uberon
Bell’s UberonĀ is a Barrel Aged Imperial version of Bell’s Oberon. Uh… yes please, sign me up! I heard about this a few weeks before our visit to the Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo MI and I had my fingers crossed that it would still be available when we went. I was disappointed to not see it on the draft board, until I noticed the slips of paper underneath the board with yet more beers listed. I was one happy beer geek when I saw it there!
The barrel aging is upfront with vanilla, bourbon and some spices. Big and boozy but very easy to drink. The really amazing thing about this beer is how the finish is so crisp, it is actually a lot like Oberon in that way. Amazing beer. I can see how this might not get really high ratings though, 1) this an odd beer to barrel age 2) if your looking for a “wheat” beer, you’re not going to get it 3) There are some extremely loyal Oberon fans out there and I can’t see them loving this. As for me, this was one of the highlights of our vacation.
