Brash Texas Exile

Brash Texas Exile is an American Porter. This apparently is an Imperial Brown Sugar Oatmeal Porter brewed with Cold Pressed Coffee, but the bottle I had simply says Ale brewed with Coffee. Picked this up on sale at my local shop so it seems it wasn’t selling well. The smell is petty potent: dark roast coffee, getting the brown sugar and a little licorice as well. This really needed some time to warm, the licorice note settles down and more of the brown sugar sweetness appears. Not a lot of coffee, but again this could have been sitting at the store for quite sometime. (My regular shop doesn’t tend to rush into inventory reduction sales!) A bit too much bitterness/harshness on the finish is really unfortunate. If you enjoy dark coffee beers it is worth a go.
