Evil Twin / Westbrook / Local Option Plastic Man
In the craft beer world it seems that every day another established brewery is pairing up with an upstart to breathe new life into their specials lineup. Some breweries are getting in bed with restaurants or TV shows or other brand names that have nothing to do with beer to get a creative spark or added interest in their product.
Then, there are the collaborations that just make sense.
South Carolina’s Westbrook and Local Option teaming up with everyone’s favorite gypsy brewer (and frequent Westbrook partner) Evil Twin is a perfect match. These breweries are constantly pushing the envelope and thrive on the one-off artisanal experience.
Plastic Man is a gorgeous beer. Incredibly sweet with nice doses of black peppercorn and clove. The carbonation is spot on, nice big effervescent bubbles that come at an even pace. It’s the rare light bodied beer that still manages to be incredibly complex.
All collaborations need to be like this one. Not born of necessity or marketing gimmick. For the love of the form.
But whenever the inevitable Dorritos/Dos Equis beer comes out, let me know, okay?
