Ithaca Brewing Co. Excelsior! White Gold
An American Pale Wheat Ale, this offering from Ithaca’s Excelsior series is fermented with Belgian, English and Wild yeasts which creates an exciting, complicated and robust combination.
This bottle was from batch E!105 and was at least a year old by the time I was able to drink it. A relatively large spark of carbonation quickly fades into the glass after the pour. In the glass the liquid exhibits a warm golden glow reminiscent of its name.
There’s a big sweet honey push at the front of the beer that gives way to a slightly sour turn at the end thanks to that wild yeast. In the middle I found a wonderful biscuity character with light splashes of lemon. The mouthfeel is very satisfying and rolls nicely with the 8% ABV.
I’d love the chance to try this fresh and will be looking for a bottle the next time White Gold comes back in rotation.
