Avery Anniversary Ale Fifteen
Avery Anniversary Ale Fifteen is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale. I found this bottle on a shelf in Florida during the summer of 2013. Needless to say I was kind of excited to have a beer that has been aging longer than I have even been into craft beer. Of course I never had this fresh so there is nothing to compare this experience to. This is brewed with black mission figs, hibiscus flowers and white pepper. Fermented with 100% Brett. The beer pours with a good bit of head and carbonation, and the aroma is light and sweet with a mild funkiness. The flavor follows suit with a light bit of fig mixing with a hint of the hibiscus. The white pepper is lost forever at this point, and I would call the funk level mild at best. I have to say I really enjoyed this a lot, and I was totally shocked when I saw the very low score it currently has on beeradvocate.com. Maybe this really wasn’t very good fresh? Or maybe some bottles have aged poorly? Hard to say, but the bottle I found was quite excellent!
