Smuttynose IPA “Finest Kind”
Today’s Throwback Thursday review has me revisiting an old favorite.
I first remember having Smuttynose IPA pretty early in my craft beer journey. This would be mostly in part to it being available in a mixed 12 pack box. Like so many new craft beer drinkers I was eager to try new beers and the mixed 12 is a great way to do that! On the downside, many of the breweries providing beers in this packaging are not what you might call the “best”. Smuttynose though is a fantastic brewery and “Finest Kind” in particular pushed me on to even more craft beer.
This are my original notes, unedited, from about four years ago:
Unfiltered yeast particles dancing about. Prickly bitterness from start to finish. Creamy caramel malt with classic grapefruit and light piney hops. Outstanding! 5/5 (A+)
Not too bad for a newbie! It looks like this was my first experience with beer stuff floating in my beer as well! I still think this is an A+ IPA today, I love all the grapefruit you get from this beer. I really love the love the label art too. The gentleman on the right looks amazingly like my grandfather who passed away when I was a boy. Every time I drink this I imagine having a cold one with him. This one’s for you Grandpa, Cheers!
