Stone Farking Wheaton W00T Stout
Stone Farking Wheaton w00t Stout is an American Double/Imperial Stout brewed with pecans, wheat, & rye, with one quarter aged in bourbon barrels. So there is a whole lot going on with this collaboration beer, and at first it kind of tastes like a sweet syrupy mess. The first thing I taste is molasses and sweet dark fruits, maybe more American Strong Ale than Imperial Stout. With a bit of patience some complexity starts to appear. The wheat element is totally lost on me, but the rye and a little bit of the bourbon comes out. Some stout like roastiness, spicy rye and pecan nuttiness finally emerges on the finish, giving this sweet stout some desperately needed balance. Even though there might be a bit too much going on overall, this is still was a pretty good drinking experience. I’m curious to see how a year or two of aging changes this beer.
