Southbound Moonlight Drive
Southbound Moonlight Drive is an American Stout brewed with Bali Blue Krishna coffee. The beer is a collaboration with local Savannah coffee roaster PERC Coffee. (For more details check out Lee’s interview with the creators of this fine beer) Lee and I attended the Tamp & Tap release event at PERC Coffee excited to sample the beer. It pours with a nice dark brown, almost black color and a pretty tan (coffee colored) head. Looking forward to seeing this in some sexier glassware rather than the shaker pints they were giving away. The flavor is very good, solid malt and coffee roast are blending together well, perfect mild sweetness. One minor complaint it is the finish, it lingers a little too long with a sharp dry bitterness. Moonlight Drive seems like it would be a great candidate for a bourbon barrel!
I was hearing at the release that there will be a small number of bottles released, but I am going to suggest you head to the bar when you see it’s being poured. Definitely looking forward to this seasonal each winter assuming Southbound and PERC continue to do this beer in the coming years.
