Terrapin / Cigar City Brewing Southern Slice
Southern Slice is one of the boldest, most flavorful lagers you will ever try, even for a Dopplebock! The Terrapin & Cigar City collaboration is brewed with 900lbs of vanilla beans and pecans, the idea here was to make pecan pie in a glass. This has a remarkable deep brown/red color that really does remind me a bit of the gooey sugary innards of pecan pie. The smell is pretty spot on too, sugary sweet and nutty with a hint of buttery crust. The taste is a bit off for me, but not bad. Apart from the aftertaste it really doesn’t taste like pecan pie. The pecans get a bit lost, as specific nuts often do in a beer. Lots of vanilla and candy sugar, mild generic nuttiness. It tastes like a dopplebock that went on a vanilla bender! If you enjoy a sweeter beer you should enjoy this quite a bit.
