Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad 2013
Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad is a Smokestack Series offering that is 16% Ale and 84% Ale aged in Bourbon Barrels with Cherries. This review is for the 2013 vintage. Before this beer has time to warm up it seems to lack the complexity and creativity of a lot of bourbon barrel aged beers, however, it does open up nicely. There is a fantastic mix of bourbon barrel and Belgian Quadrupel. Rich toffee and fruity Belgian yeast is well balanced with a strong bourbon flavor. Not as much of The Sixth Glass base beer comes through as I’d like, missing the sweet raisins and brown sugar. I have to admit the cherries are too muted for me to notice much in the taste as well, but they are adding to reddish brown appearance and come out on the nose a good bit. Definitely worth picking up at the price point!
