Run Streak #150
I wasn’t planning on writing anything up for run #150 of my run streak, but a lot has happened in the last 50 days so here is an update.
Like the first 100 days I’ve had a pretty decent go of it. No major injuries and only a few days of “why am I doing this” self questioning. Those days came on some nasty cold rainy days when I just didn’t want to get out and get wet, I hate running in the wet. The streak has a mind of it’s own now though so I went out anyway, though I freely admit a few of those days I took advantage of my mile minimum. The only bad days I had were around 130-140. I had a bunch of stuff going on at work that was stressing me out. I actually wanted to go out for a run to clear my head and get away from everything on those days but the tension I was feeling made those run not much fun. My back and knees would ache and I watched my times drop some. Fortunately those days have passed and I’m back to feeling better about my runs. I don’t ache as much and my times are closer to what they were. I will say those lousy days took their toll, it took some time to get back up to normal and only today’s 150th run have I feel good about my run.
So that’s the bad but like most bad days they passed and I can now focus on all the good things that have been going on. I’ve upped my mileage quite a bit over the past 50 days. Were I was averaging 10-12 miles a week as I started this streak I’m now averaging over 20 miles a week. It’s good to feel the endurance returning to my legs. I’ve even been regular on several six plus milers lately. I’m still run/walking those but I’m comfortable in looking for some upcoming 10K runs, knowing that if they are a few weeks out I would be in a good place come race time. That brings me to the best news so far. I’m signed up for a 5k this weekend. It will be the first official run I’ve done in over a year and after I started physical therapy for my back. I’m looking forward to it and thinking I may be able to PR this one. I should say PR as an adult; I don’t think I’ll ever get back to my high school track days. Finally, something I assumed would happen but never really worried about. I’ve lost 15 pounds over the last 150 days. I knew some of the weight I gained over the past year would come off but I’m really pleased at how fast it has dropped. If I keep that up maybe I will hit that high school PR.
