Great Divide 20th Anniversary Belgian Style Ale
Great Divide 20th Anniversary Belgian Style Ale is fermented with Viognier grape juice. Great Divide started changed the style of their Anniversary Ale last year (it had been the same Wood Aged Double IPA previous years), but I somehow missed out on trying it. This year I made sure to grab a bottle when I heard it was going to show up at my local bottle shop. I have to point out that I really like the label too, the fairly simple design mixed with the red/orange color really stands out to me.
A big giant head tells me this is going to be a bubbly beer! I love the smell of this, grainy and sweet with a hint of honey and funk. The taste is dominated by the yeast, pretty funky overall. A light bit of apple, pear and grape fruitiness on the finish is greatly appreciated, giving this one at least a little bit of complexity.
I enjoyed this beer a good bit, it was refreshing and easy to enjoy. I can’t help but feel that it was missing something though, just not sure what it was!
