Mikkeller Black Hole (Cognac)
Mikkeller Black Hole (Cognac) is a Russian Imperial Stout brewed with coffee, honey and vanilla then aged in cognac barrels. I wasn’t overly impressed with the regular version of this, but I decided to take a chance on this variant. I found this, along with serval other variants, collecting dust at Turtle Creek in Winder, GA. I went with the highest rated one they had, which was the Cognac barrel version!
I’m not a big cognac drinker but I feel like the barrel has done wonderful things to this beer. Still getting a nice bit of sweet honey on this as well. The coffee has faded quite a bit over the years this has been pre-aging on the shelf, but all the pure sweetness in this is making up for that.
Much like a snifter of good cognac this beer is perfect as nice nightcap sipper. A bit on the expensive side, but that should be expected with most every Mikkeller beer. This one turned out to be well worth it. Grab a bottle if you happen to find one sitting somewhere before they are gone for good!
