Swamp Head Smoke Signal
Swamp Head Smoke Signal is a smoked American Porter. The malt of this porter is flavored with Alderwood, most commonly used for smoking salmon in the Pacific Northwest.
Smells sweet and smokey with notes of molasses and brown sugar. I’m impressed by how mildly smokey this is. The smoke usually dominates most smoked beers but not in this case. The taste starts with a twinge of lacto like sourness, followed by the smokiness. Some sugary sweetness and roasted malts are in the flavor mix as well. The smoke does linger into the aftertaste, but it is totally under control. The mouth-feel was a bit thin, but that is something I can live with.
I tend to enjoy smoked beers, but the mildness of this one was rather refreshing. I would give it a shot if you are on the smoked beer fence, this one isn’t too intense.
