AleSmith Speedway Stout – Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee
This is your regular ol’ AleSmith Speedway Stout brewed with Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee beans. The beans are grown in some of the highest Caribbean peaks, making this one of the most rare coffees in the world.
Everything is nearly perfect with this beer… assuming you like coffee. I really enjoy the year round Speedway Stout a lot and this is my first coffee variant experience. The rarer coffee beans really make a huge difference. Think of a rich and chocolaty stout you really love and then add some of the best tasting black coffee you have had to that, and you have an idea of what this tastes like. I’m really not a black coffee drinker (I prefer a bit of cream), but this had a great straight coffee flavor. I’m getting more roasted malts coming out in this than I remember in the original, and it’s maybe not quite as sweet. A lightly bitter finish rounds out this amazing stout.
It might not be the easiest beer to get a hold of but, yes, seek this out if you can. Thanks to Lee for doing just that and then sharing it!
