Cantillon Classic Gueuze
Cantillon Classic Gueuze is a blend of one, two and three year old Lambics, refermented in the bottle. This has been aged one year since bottling. It’s become incredibly hard to acquire bottles of this these days, huge thanks to Ben P for making the last day of my beer streak one I’ll never forget!
One of the most potent smelling sour ales I’ve ever had. Huge funk along with some light fruitiness. The taste has an unreal amount of complexity for the style. Sourness, grass, huge yeast funk, grapefruit and a bunch of barnyard funkiness on the finish. This review feels futile to me. Words really can’t capture this, it really has too be experienced.
At this point in time the hype couldn’t be greater than with Cantillon, so I am a bit afraid how that clouded my judgement. Although I’ve had some similar sour ales as good, I’d be hard pressed to come up with one any better than this.
