Terrapin The Iron Tankard
Terrapin The Iron Tankard is an Old Ale. This was the first of the 4 beers in the Georgia Theatre Series brewed and released in 2010. I happened upon this at Turtle Creek in Winder Ga. and couldn’t resist. This was the only beer in the series with serious aging potential so I was hopeful this would still taste pretty good after 4 years.
The pour is pretty decent, not much head but that is not too shocking given the age it has on it. The color is now a nice murky caramel color, I’d guess it could have been a bit clearer fresh. Lots of caramel and a bit of dark fruits on the nose, very potent and sweet smell. The taste is less sweet than the nose, but this has held up very well. Strong caramel and good dark fruits flavors of prunes and figs in the taste as well. If this was a bit hot fresh it has all but disappeared at this point.
This is drinking really nice right now, and could probably sit for a bit longer as well. When I bought it I was glad to just be able to tick it, but this turned out to be an excellent drinking experience.
