Burnt Hickory Big Shanty Graham Cracker Stout
I’ve had Burnt Hickory Big Shanty Graham Cracker Stout in beer festival settings a couple of times, but I am finally getting a chance to dive into a proper pour of this amazing Imperial Stout.
The aroma on this is really fantastic for a non-barrel aged stout. Sweet chocolate with a nice helping of roast and a hint of graham cracker on the nose. There is actually a real flavor of graham crackers upfront. It fades quickly but I am impressed that it battles it way through the other bold flavors. The beer settles into a lovely mix of sweet chocolate and notes of vanilla. Balancing malt roast and touch of hops are simply in the perfect amount in this stout.
Lee was saying that he remembered a lot more graham cracker flavor in previous experiences, and I would agree that would be a welcomed addition to the beer. But even without it this is a bold but approachable stout. I really hope this makes it into bottles someday, it’s fantastic.
