Service Brewing Wheat Wine
When I stopped by the brewery a few weeks ago and heard there was going to be a Service Brewing Wheat Wine on tap for the tours/tastings, I about lost my mind. I love a good wheatwine, and if the recent offerings I’ve had from Service were any indication, I knew this was going to be something special.
The color on this was a good bit darker than I expected, but still very appealing. It’s a very dark amber color with a nice off white head. The smell took a while to come out, but after it warmed there was a pleasant combo of wheat and sugary sweetness. The flavor of this was rich and decadent, dense wheat and sweet caramel and toffee malt flavors. This is all complemented by and underlying sweetness. Never too much but always present, like a perfectly placed sustained note in a beautiful piece of music. THIS is the kind of beer I knew Savannah could make.
I hope we see this sweet sipper in bottles and barrels sometime soon, but for the time being it is a limited R&D offering brewed exclusively for the taproom. If you’re a local Savannah beer nerd you need to put a regular visit to Service on your radar. Amazing rotating beers like this one are being brewed every week!
