The Lost Abbey Agave Maria
The Lost Abbey Agave Maria is an Agave Strong Ale created specifically to pair with the spiciness of the Tequila barrel aging (a blend of Anejo and Reposado barrels). The beer was aged for a minimum of ten months.
Pours with a surprising dark brown color with some tint of red. I stopped pouring just after some beer food chunks made it into my glass! The aroma is almost straight tequila, lots of that distinct pepper and alcohol heat I associate with that type of alcohol. Again there is tons of tequila in the taste, really there is no need to hunt this down if you hate tequila, you will hate this too. Once that initial tequila taste settles the sweet agave in the ale comes through near the finish. The agave and malt seem to create a little bit of dark fruit flavor as well, along with some lacto like sourness. A little touch of molasses comes out as it warms. A beer made for sipping, it is going to make me a while to get through this 375 ml bottle.
Again, DO NOT spend your money on this if you don’t like tequila, it would simply be a waste.
