New Belgium Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout (Lips Of Faith Series)
New Belgium Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout is a Belgian style Stout is brewed with chocolate and table salt added post fermentation. This Lips of Faith Series beer is a collaboration with Perennial Artisan Ales. I was very interested to try this one, thanks to Lee for hauling this back from Charleston as it has eluded our shelves in Savannah.
Dark brown, nearly black pour, think a good looking porter. The smell on this is dry and chocolaty with a bit of Oyster Stout like brine. Nothing huge, but I can “smell” the salt just a bit. The taste is fairly typical for a Belgian style Stout, not my favorite style, but I’m enjoying the dark fruit notes and the dry dark bakers chocolate. Both of these flavors really come out as it warms, improving the experience. What seems missing is the salt, it was very disappointing to not taste that in the flavor.
Lee had the brilliant idea to grab a salt shaker form the kitchen and we all cranked some extra salt into the few sips we had left and it was great. Seriously, add your own salt to this after it warms up a bit!
