One Block At A Time – Week Fourteen
I’ve tried many methods to kick start a regular running routine, but the only thing that really seems to work is what I call the “one block at a time” method. I plan to run 3 times a week, and go 1 block further each time. Simple as that. (Except I know myself, and it will never be as simple as that) Without a mini goal in mind, I just have a hard time committing to running. I hope that this weekly blog will help me to not quit this time, and maybe finally get into better shape! Who knows, maybe it will help motivate you too.
Monday 01/12/15 No run today, not only am I feeling like crap but it is also pouring rain this morning. I’ve decided to rest up as much as I can today. I hope I feel better tomorrow.
DAY THIRTY-FIVE Thursday 01/13/15 Still not feeling 100%, in fact I had a pretty rough night of coughing that went along with a vicious sore throat. I think I am just well enough to feel bad about not trying to run today. All things considered it wasn’t to bad today. Out of breath a lot today, but that isn’t to surprising given the illness or allergies I’m suffering from. My legs felt pretty good after the extra days rest though, the first mile was great. That calf pain from last week came back after that, not as bad as Thursday but I could feel it. Another day when I could have cut it short but got to the end of my last run, plus a block. Actually today was the farthest I’ve gone on this running route. That doesn’t include the 5K I did 15 weeks ago, but it felt good to further than I had before on my daily run. It feels good to know if I had to run another 5K tomorrow I could. With a little luck I will feel a bit better on Thursday and can get a good run in!
DAY THIRTY-SIX Friday 01/15/15 Not sure how I did it today. Still hacking a lot thanks to my allergy and/or cold thing. I was very ready to not do it. I’m sick, my legs are sore, I’m tired… wah, wah, wah. Screw it, just go run. And I did. And it sucked. I think I got two good things out of this one. First is the simple fact that I did it, and didn’t stop shuffling down the road until one more block had been achieved. That never stops feeling good. Second would be the fact that that calf pain I’ve been dealing with for a week is gone, so yay for that.
