Cisco Monomoy Kriek
According to the bottle Cisco Monomoy Kriek is an Ale aged in oak wine barrels with cherries added. This review is for the 2013 vintage, opened in January of 2015, 6.7% ABV. There is almost zero info on the website about this beer, apart from the ABV they tell you it is a Cherried Flemish Red. I guess this is some kind of hybrid Kriek and Flanders Red Ale then?
The color would match a Flanders Red Ale, clear brownish red. The aroma fits the style too with a very intense vinegar sourness. Third time is a charm, the taste fits with the Flanders Red Ale description as well. It’s a VERY sour beer that rivals it’s sister, Lady of the Woods, in mouth puckering ability. Things mellow out a good bit as it warms (Trust me, it will warm since it will take you a while to get through the bottle) and a lot more sweet cherry appears. I’m not really getting much, if anything from the oak wine barrel.
If you are looking for an intense sour experience put this one on your want list.
