Great Divide Hercules Double IPA
I recently picked up a 22oz bottle of Great Divide Hercules Double IPA to revisit with the intention of reviewing. Not super fresh, opened this on 2/2/15, it was bottled on 9/10/14, so we are looking a a 5 month old DIPA.
Not the best looking DIPA I’ve ever seen, but it isn’t ugly either, kind of dark and cloudy. The aroma on this is fantastic, my first whiff reveals tons of fresh cut pineapple. It fades as it warms, but that first impression is awesome. The taste starts out rather malty with a lot of sugary sweetness. Before long the hops take over with a mouth tingling pine finish, lots of straight bitterness attacks the mouth. The 10% ABV isn’t particularly well hidden, but it does work well with the taste profile for me.
Not getting much subtlety in this one, kind of a two note DIPA: malty sweet then pine bitter. But man are those two notes are damn tasty!
