Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee
Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee is a Belgian style Quadrupel brewed with Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico as well as Belgian candy sugar. It is then aged in bourbon barrels and comes in at 13.4% ABV. This review is for the 2014 vintage aged about one year I’d guess.
This pours with a dense caramel color with a few ruby red highlights, not much in the way of a head at all. Oh dear god this beer smells amazing. So much nice sweet toffee and caramel, dark fruits, sweet vanilla and bourbon. Almost a rum raisin thing going on. The taste of this is super sweet, with a ton of vanilla, brown sugar, plums and dark fruits, molasses, caramel/toffee, and at this point a mild bourbon. I’m willing to bet that the bourbon was bigger on this when it was fresh. Sometimes a lack of bourbon can be a big letdown, but with as sweet as this beer is I think it works fine.
If you don’t love big sweet sippers, don’t even bother, but for me this is one of the better new beers I’ve had in a while.
