Review: Feetures! Socks
I chose running as my sport for a lot of reasons but one of the major reasons had to do with equipment. Running appealed to me because all I felt you the only gear you really needed to invest in was a good pair of shoes. Otherwise, if you had a t-shirt and a pair of shorts and you were good to walk out the door and go for a run. I have acquired plenty of lightweight wicking running shorts and tech shirts over the years and I do use them but, I still believe you don’t need all that to get started. I’ve modified my good pair of shoes rule though. I now think having some real running socks are a good investment and should be the first running upgrade after shoes.
Feetures! is a sock company that seems to understand that socks are important. As they say they make socks “designed for runners by runners – for all the reasons we run.”
To review the Feetures! socks I decided to try a full experiment. For each pair I ran several runs over a few weeks. These ranged in length from one mile to four miles, some on the road and a few on a treadmill. I must say I was pretty amazed at how different these socks were from each other and how different they felt from the other brands I regularly use.
I tried several of the Feetures! socks with two stand outs and one worth mentioning. I’ll start with the later. The Feetures! Elite Merino blend are advertised as being unsurpassed comfort socks. They are in fact very comfortable, some of the most comfortable socks I’ve ever worn. They are listed as running and walking socks and as a walking sock, and even a wear around the house sock, I found them to be excellent. However, something about the slickness of the merino wool, that otherwise made them very soft, made them less desirable for running.
The first of the two stand-outs are the Feetures! Elite Anatomical fit. These are designated as being Targeted Compression socks. They, like all Feetures! socks claim to be blister free. The later claim was accurate in my case, I did not suffer any blisters while using any of the Feetures! socks. I found these socks to be very comfortable with my weak arches being well supported by arch compression area. I usually don’t care about the colors of socks, they are inside your shoes so what does it matter, but the Black and Pacific Blue pair I have a pretty sharp looking.
The Feetures! High Performance non-slip, snug fit socks were my favorite of the group. These black socks were very comfortable and are, as advertised, snug. Tight socks bother me but these were Goldilocks socks, just right. My one issue with running socks is that they are now often left or right foot specific. This is problematic on those early morning runs when I’m not quite awake and getting dressed in half-light. Fit is the most important aspect of socks so this isn’t a big issue but this pair of high performance socks was the only pair that was not foot specific which made me like them even more. In fact the Feetures! High Performance non-slip, snug fits have become my favorite pair of socks and I’ve chosen them for all my recent races.
