Due South Mexican Standoff
Due South Mexican Standoff is an American Porter, 8.5% ABV. I picked this crowler up after stopping in for a quick beer when passing through. Not a lot of specific information on the website, but they tell you do give a hint as to the treatment of this Porter: Cocoa mixes with subtle vanilla and cinnamon notes before the chili pepper takes hold with its heat.
The beer pours with a nice dark brown color with caramel hue around the edges, nice tan head that fades over time. The smell is pretty much straight butter toffee, I really like the smell, but I’m not totally sure if it is intentional or if it’s a bit of diacetyl showing up. The taste brings a lot of sweet toffee, mild chocolate, some vanilla and rich caramel. The chili spicing comes in big and strong at the end with a burn that lingers in my chest.
Not too much of a burn for me, but this would be way too much for some people.
