Cigar City Brewing Grandmule
Cigar City Brewing Grandmule is an American Porter aged in bourbon barrels, ABV unknown, bottled on 07/02/2014, aged one year. From the bottle: For Grandmothers, Nonnas, Grandmas, Abuelsas, Grannys, Memaws, Grammas, Nannas, and all the kindly ladies everywhere that bravely go to all the breweries their grandkids can’t get to. We brewed this beer in honor of your patiences and love. Cheers! This is pretty funny since my Dad (or Pepere to my daughter) lives so close to CCB and is my regular mule!
This pours jet black with just a little bit of a tan head after a year of age. The aroma is strong and boozy with notes of chocolate, licorice, big bourbon, molasses, vanilla and caramel. Rich dark chocolate and bourbon dominate the taste (shocked by how much bourbon is in this after a year!) notes of dark fruits, mild roast, molasses and hazelnuts on the finish. Slick and oily on the mouth-feel with a medium to big body. This Porter drinks much more like a stout to me. Absolutely outstanding!
I can’t remember if this was a guaranteed bottle from the first edition of The El Catador Club, or if it was an additional release made available to club members. Either way I’m glad I saved it to share with the woman of my dreams on our 9th anniversary. I hope I can top this for our 10th next year!
