Jailhouse Thieves In The Law
Jailhouse Thieves In The Law is a Russian Imperial Stout, 11.5% ABV.
The pour is thick and black with a small dark tan head. This has a nice and fairly classic RIS aroma. I’m smelling some slightly burnt malt, molasses, dark fruits and a general sugary sweetness. My first impression of the taste is how unfortunately thin the mouth-feel is. I like my Russian Imperials thick and chewy and this is a tad too watery for my tastes. The flavor itself is rather nice and follows the nose quite well. Deep and slightly burnt malts are followed by a nice combination of licorice, dark fruits and a bit of sweet molasses. Some notes of chocolate are on the finish with a little lingering alcohol heat. I’m not going to say this is the best RIS I’ve ever had, but this beer hits most all of the major elements of the style.
It seems this was a very limited release, but I would not hesitate to pick up a few of these to have around if they brew it again!
