Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast

Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast is a classic Oatmeal Stout that is brewed with coffee, 7.5% ABV.

This stout pours with an extremely dark brown color and a perfect light brown head that creates tremendous lacing. The aroma is complex and wonderful. I’m getting roasted coffee, chocolate malts along with undertones of licorice and honey on the nose. The taste is dominated by a lot of strong acidic coffee, bordering on a sourness at times. Most of the quality flavor seems to come in the finish and aftertaste. Tasting some chocolate, coffee, sweet malts then a return to bitter coffee and roasted malt. The mouthfeel is somehow both thick and velvety, yet it also tingles with carbonation. A bit of a dry finish as well.

That sourness seems out of place, but I feel like that could be an issue with this particular bottle. I’ve had this several times before and I don’t remember it. Or maybe it was always there and I just never noticed it? Either way this still an excellent stout.
