Flying Mouse Brewery 8
On a trip to Virginia this summer I picked up Flying Mouse Brewery’s 8 as part of a mixed six. All of Flying Mouse’s cans have the same design featuring their mascot, Bartleby Hopsworth. Bartleby is a mouse with dreams of being an bat and has a steampunk mentality toward invention. The design is clean and striking so it’ really popped on the shelf. The cans for Flying Mouse’s beers have only two differences. Each of the breweries brews is designated by a number, so that changes and each features it’s own color. 8 is a deep blue color, distinguished from the warm red, orange, and green of their other cans. 8 is a very good 5.3% porter, thicker than many I’ve had recently and with a rich flavor that hints at coffee, chocolate and smoke. I liked it so much I to promised myself I would pick up a full six pack on my next trip up.
