Southbound Black Circle
Southbound Black Circle is an American Black Ale/IPA. This is a second collaboration with the local Savannah area radio station Rock 106.1.
The pour is very dark, almost pure black with some brown coming in around the edges. Huge tan head. Wow! I’m getting some fantastic fresh cut pineapple in the aroma at first that I wasn’t expecting at all. The big fruit fades pretty quickly leaving behind a sweet charred malt character. I’m tasting dark chocolate, roasted malts that are on the cusp of charred, a nice strong hop bitterness and just a bit of pine. The beer has a general smokiness to it that I am enjoying quite a bit. I tend to be pretty hard on Black IPA’s, but this one is really well done. Well, I don’t think I would actually call this a Black IPA, it drinks more like a true Black Ale or Cascadian Dark.
Cheers to Smith, Alex and the crew at Southbound and Rock 106.1, excellent work!
