Allagash Fluxus 2015
Allagash Fluxus 2015 is a Belgian Golden Ale, 8% ABV. The label tells me many things, but among them is the fact that this is Allagash’s 20th Anniversary. Congrats to a great American brewery and thanks for 20 years of amazing beer! As for this beer, here is some of what the label tells us… brewed with Pilsner malt and a large portion local maple syrup… dry hopped with two experimental hops, 06277 and 06297.
The beer pours with a beautiful golden yellow pilsner color, and an active Belgian style head that never dissipates and leave gorgeous lacing. The aroma is a bit disappointing, not bad but it has a strong but simple Belgian funkiness that mixes with some basic grain. Again I might have been expecting a bit more from the taste, but this is a really nice and refreshing beer. Slight fruitiness is mixing with the pilsner malt upfront, hints of strawberry and pineapple. The yeast is strong but not funky, adding a bit of bite and interest to the beer. There is also an underlying honey like sweetness to this beer which I have to assume is coming from the maple syrup. The finish is strong and the aftertaste is flavorful, lots of pineapple coating my mouth.
After 20 years of beers this might not be remembered as one of their best, but after each sip I am enjoying this more and more. There is more to this beer than you might think at first.
