Prairie Artisan Ales Brett C.
Prairie Artisan Ales Brett C. is a Saison/Farmhouse Ale. According to the bottle this is brewed with Cascade and Citra Hops and a touch of Sea Salt then bottle conditioned with Brettanomyces, 8.1% ABV.
This beer pours with an interesting dirty lemon yellow color and a huge active white head. The aroma is fantastic, sweet melon, lemon candy, and a mild Brett funk. I really like the sweetness in the aroma quite a bit. The taste starts just about the same, wonderful sweetness with a sweet candy lemon flavor, then things take a quick ride on the funk train. A dryness takes over the finish that has a funky barnyard flair, lots of grass and hay. I didn’t think the sea salt had a chance to survive the big flavor, but just a hint of it comes through on the back end of the taste.
I think I like the aroma a touch more than the taste overall, but both are pretty damn good. One of the best labels I’ve seen from these guys as well, it is something to be seen… Looks like some kind of jolly Brettanomyces acid trip cartoon.
