Unibroue Maudite
Unibroue Maudite is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, 8% ABV.
This beer pours with a cloudy and extremely dark amber color, beautiful fluffy off white (almost tan) head. The cloudiness really could be my fault, I was not very careful pouring this ale that is re-fermented in the bottle on it’s yeast base. The aroma is rather bready and malt forward which is followed by a big fruitiness dominated by figs and a hint of fresh cut apples. Sweet and fruity on the taste, getting a lot of apple juice and pear that are attempting to be balanced with some spicy cloves and a wisp of hops. The back end of the beer brings in a little banana and typical Belgian yeast spice. Fairly light in the mouth-feel making this pretty easy to drink for a style that can often be a sipper.
I should really pick up a four pack of this more frequently, this is a an outstanding beer.
