Fullsteam Carver is a Lager brewed with two hundred pounds of North Carolina sweet potatoes per batch, 5.3% ABV. I figured this was a seasonal offering but according to their website this is available year round.
The beer pours with a nice golden orange color with a slight red tint, very sweet potato like. Mild on the nose, pretty much the same aroma as your average malt forward amber ale. I’m digging (no pun intended) on the taste though. It is profoundly malt forward, but there is a distinct sweet potato starch flavor to this as well.
I’d have to say I still prefer a good Pumpkin Ale, especially at this time of year, but this was really enjoyable. That starchy flavor is really quite an accomplishment.
