New Holland The Carhartt Woodsman
New Holland The Carhartt Woodsman is an American Pale Ale that is barrel aged and brewed with Cascade hops grown in their home state of Michigan, 4.4% ABV.
The beer pours with a medium golden color (not quite as dark as this picture would say) and a minimal white head. Sweet and bready on the aroma, not getting much else. The taste is nice if not overly impressive. Again I’m getting sweet bready malts that are balanced with some hop bitterness on the finish. Some toasted oak will lead me to believe the barrel used did not involve a distilled alcoholic beverage or wine. I’m also getting a mild amount of tartness. Not like a sour ale, but it’s there in a non-offensive and subtle way.
I’m not sure if this has lost some of it’s punch since being bottle in late August, or if this is just a mild Pale Ale. As it stands I might give this another go if I can try it closer to the packaging date.
