Wild Heaven Funkenrauch
Wild Heaven Funkenrauch has to be one of the most unique beers I have seen in a while. I was super hesitant to even pick up a bottle, but my curiosity got the best of me and into my cart went a 7% ABV Smoked Wild Ale aged in Bordeaux Barrels.
This has a pretty look to it, lightly golden with a rather nice head that stays for a while, odd for a sour ale. The aroma… the best I can describe it is sour smoked salmon. I’m not sure why I’m not revolted by this, but I really kind of LIKE it! The taste brings a very quick hint of tartness but it is gone almost so fast that you think it wasn’t there at all. Mostly a Smoked Beer in the taste but there are some odd red wine notes powering their way through all the smokiness. Dry and yeasty on the finish makes for a fine bookend to this strange beer.
I’m probably a bit crazy, but even with a steep price tag… I kind of want a few more bottles of this. It is like nothing I’ve ever had before!
