Southbound Moondance
On the label Southbound Moondance is called a Belgian Inspired Imperial Stout with Spices, 10.6% ABV.
The beer pours a typical dark black color, flashes of caramel around the edges, and an off white head that clears away quickly. Chocolate brownie batter and spices in the aroma. Not sure exactly what spices are in here, but I am getting some clove and ginger on the nose. The taste has a lot less of a chocolate flavor but it is there, more dark fruits and a dry yeast that powers through the strong flavor. Some generic sweet spice comes in on the back half, ginger and sweet orange peel seem to stand out to me. The final taste element is some fairly strong alcohol heat, it’s working well with the flavor profile though.
Solid overall, this would be a nice beer to share with friends this holiday season.
