Cigar City Brewing 110k + OT Batch #8
Cigar City Brewing 110k + OT Batch #8 is an American Double/Imperial IPA, no ABV listed, bottled on 12/23/15, opened on 01/14/16. Batch #5 of this annual beer was also a DIPA, but I have to assume this is a new recipe.
This beer pours with a rich golden color that has some red and orange highlights, and a good off white head with decent retention and excellent lacing. The aroma is somewhat mild, but a good bit of onion/scallion is coming through. The taste confirms the onion I got on the nose… this beer is loaded with it. It is balanced by a good bit of sweet melon which for some reason was rather unexpected. Even more unexpected is how much I’m enjoying this combination. I’m not a big fan of melon in general, and my lack of interest in that onion hop flavor is pretty well documented by now, but for some reason I am not offended by the two together. In fact, they are working quite well on my palate. I need to point out a nice, rich caramel malt base behind it all that is probably the glue holding all this together for me.
CCB doesn’t need me to point out that they have made another really good beer, but in case you haven’t heard… they made another really good beer.
