Founders Azacca is an American IPA, 7% ABV. This new IPA is currently available January through March.
The beer pours with a clear golden color with a bit of orange and red, the head is a dark off white (but not quite tan) with excellent retention and lacing. Even with a bit of cold weather stuffiness I can smell the big tropical fruits on the nose, maybe a hint of earthy pine as well. The taste compliments the aroma nicely with some sweet mango and citrus, a touch of caramel malt, slightly herbal and grassy notes and an earthiness that is similar to what you might find in a Red Ale. The finish is pleasantly bitter with a return to the citrus zip from earlier in the taste.
I have no regrets about taking a chance on a whole six pack of this one, and there is a good chance I’ll be back for more.
