Run Steak Update: It’s Over
My run streak is over. It’s a sad thing ending something that has been a daily part of my life for over two years.
I wanted to go out on my own terms but it didn’t happen that way. In fact it ended in exactly the way I didn’t want it to. I had always planned on quitting at some point but I didn’t want the end date to be injury related.
It happened on a Sunday. I was out camping with my son when I tried to pick something up I should not have. My old back injury flared up and it was all over. I tried. I did my best to pull off a walk/run but I just could not do it. So I called it.
That first day was very hard. I felt like I was giving up. But by the next day I was OK, knowing that I could restart anytime I wanted. I actually enjoyed the week I took off running. It gave me plenty of time to rest my back and it was relaxing knowing I didn’t have to go for a run.
I am pretty proud of the streak and what I accomplished while I was at it.
Here are the final stats:
Number of days running in a row: 798
Yes I was just short of 800 which sucks but it is what it is.
Miles run: 1620.5
Just over two miles a day and more than the distance between Miami and Boston!
Time spent: 255.30 hours
That is 10.6 days worth of running.
Beer calories burned: 237,035
I do not even know what that means BUT the average beer has 153 calories per pint, so that’s 1,549 beers.
The run streak was a fun experience. It certainly kept me running. I’m worried that now that I don’t have than daily requirement I might slack off but fortunately I have a race to train for so I’m back to it.
I guess the big question now is will I start a new run streak? The answer to that is decidedly NO. At least not yet. I’m enjoying not having to run on my work-heavy days and my body is happier at the moment. Maybe one day I’ll restart, but for now I’m OK, I’ll leave the run streaks to Andrew.
